Nagaland, state in extreme northeastern India, bordered on the west and north by Assam state, on the east by Myanmar, on the north by Arunachal Pradesh state, and on the south by Manipur state. Nagaland is one of India's smallest states.

Nagaland has no early written history. The first references to the people there are found in 13th-century chronicles of the Ahom kingdom of neighbouring Assam. The word Naga designates the many tribes and subtribes that occupy the area.

90 % percent of the people depends to Agriculture of Nagaland. Rice and corn are the main crops. However, the state is not self-sufficient in food. Shifting cultivation .

Major industrial towns are Angami, Ao, Sema, Konyak, and Chakesang.

Area 6,401 square miles (16,579 square km). Population: (1991) 1,215,573.
