What is an injunction?

An injunction is a court order ordering you to do or not to do something. For example, to prevent your neighbour from damaging your property, to enforce a sale agreement etc. An injunction may also be granted when a case is pending in court, to preserve the subject matter of litigation till the case is decided.

An injunction may be prohibitory (i.e. directing someone to not do something) or mandatory (i.e. directing someone to do something). An injunction that is issued during the pendency of a case is called a temporary or interim injunction. An injunction that is issued when the case is finally decided is called a permanent injunction.
