Does the law recognize my caste status? |
|||||||||||||||||
|
Since the Constitution came into force in 1950, untouchability in India has been specifically abolished. However, as reservations in India are on a caste basis, your caste will be of relevance if you belong to any of the castes included in the list of Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes. Your caste could also be of relevance if there are any customs of your caste that are recognized as law for the purpose of marriage etc. |
