Review
Biwi No.1 is a film revolving around a man’s infidelity, his falling in love and going out of wedlock. It is also about the power
wielded by Indian women. How does the beleaguered wife win back her husband form the clutches of the vamp? The film has the regular
David Dhawan stuff in it.
Prem Mehra (Salman Khan) is a happily married man who loves his wife and kids. He is satisfied with his life but misses the spice in
his married life. His wife Pooja (Karisma Kapoor) has very little time to go out with her husband, as she is busy with performing the
duties of an Indian housewife.
Rupali Walia (Sushmita Sen) is an over-ambitious model who wants every luxury in life. She believes the easiest way to glory is to
marry a billionaire. For fulfilling her dreams, she even rejects the marriage proposal from her best friend, Deepak (Saif Ali Khan).
Prem is the owner of an Advertising Agency and signs Rupali as a model. Prem starts liking her and does not think it wrong to spend
some of his time fooling around with her. He plans a trip to Switzerland with her and is able to convince his family that he would go
alone on the trip. He takes Rupali along with him.
At the airport, Prem meets his best friend, Lakhan (Anil Kapoor), Lakhan’s wife Lovely (Tabu) and his son. To his horror, he learns
that they too are going to Switzerland. Lakhan comes to know of Prem's extra marital affair with Rupali.
Lovely spills the beans about Prem and his marriage. Rupali is still blinded by her lust for money and does not mind it. Prem buys a
house, car etc. for Rupali to keep her happy. But the truth comes out of the closet to Pooja. She asks him to choose between the
family and Rupali. Unfortunately, Prem opts for the latter.
Lakhan promises Pooja to get Prem back to his house, where he should be. Pooja and Lakhan chalk out a plan to accomplish their
mission. With help from her mother in-law and her children, Lakhan and Pooja are able to make Prem realize his mistake.
Salman Khan has, perhaps for the first time, done justice to his role. Karisma and Sush have played their roles well. This should be
good news for Sush, as her film career has not gone that well so far.
The music given by Anu Malik is quite ordinary. The movie has some catchy songs like ‘Hai Mirche’, ‘Ishq Chandi Hai’ title song ‘Biwi
No. 1’ and ‘Jungle Hai Aadhi Raat Hai’. But these songs will not last long.
It’s a David Dhawan film, so the comedy is there but nothing extraordinary about it. The script of the film has nothing new to offer.
There are similarities to David Dhawan's past hits and one gets the feeling he is becoming monotonous. The film is partly shot in the
United States and Switzerland. The picturisation is good. It’s a good time pass movie
