Rani Mukherjee .... Khushi

Director : Milan Luthria

Synopsis
Ranbir(Ajay Devgan), an architect from from Shimla and Khushi (Rani Mukherji), a hostess, meet by chance in an opulent banquet hall. However, unlike other Bollywood films, they do not fall for each other at first sight. Their relationship grows gradually in a series of meetings.

Khushi is an orphan who has been raised by a group of traditional women singers. She instantly takes a liking to Ranbir because of his caring nature and his sense of humor. Slowly this liking ripens into love.

Ranbir too is close to Khushi, but not without reservations. What’s holding him back? Is there another woman (Sonali Bendre) in his life?
Review

Chori Chori is based on oft-repeated story of two people pretending to be lovers and then eventually falling in love. Ranbir feels ditched by his childhood lover Pooja (Sonali) and therefore strikes a deal with Khushi (Rani) to pretend as his girlfriend to make Pooja jealous. However, Ranbir ends up falling in love with Khushi and she too feels the same for him.

Despite this hackneyed story, the film engages a viewer because of the different treatment of the subject by film’s director Milan Luthria.

The first half of the film is pretty interesting with comic bits between Ajay and Rani. But the narrative loses pace in the second half due to the songs that come frequently. Even the climax of the movie would have been better if wasn't so melodramatic and didn't have to carry the weight of two songs, Rootthe Yaar and Kehna Hai.

The chemistry between Ajay Devgan and Rani Mukherji in the movie is quite noticeable. While Ajay plays the brusque and smug Ranbir with conviction, Rani sizzles in the role of a bubbly girl who is an orphan and finds love in Ranbir’s family. In the siderole Sonali too leaves her impact.

Chori Chori might have been a very interesting romantic movie had the movie’s script been spruced up a little bit and it’s director Luthria had taken care not to incorporate too many songs in the film.

Still the film is worth seeing once.
