Synopsis
Ek Aur Ek Gyarah is a laugh riot starring Govinda and Sanjay Dutt. The film is directed by David Dhawan, who is often dubbed as the king of slapstick comedy.

Tara (Sanjay Dutt) and Sitara (Govinda) are two notorious, small-town thugs who are always ‘chilling out’ playing one prank or the other. One day when the police are chasing them, they mistakenly shoot one of the most dreaded criminals who goes by the name Cobra (Ashish Vidyarthi).

While Tara and Sitara manage to get away, unlucky Cobra falls into the clutches of police as a prize catch. An enraged cobra vows to avenge the two.

Minnows in the world of crime, both Tara and Sitara now have not only police but also the ‘big shark of underworld’ Cobra upon their backs. They finally decide that the only way out is to cross the Nepal border and live peacefully forever.

Now comes into picture Cobra's brother Panther (Gulshan Grover). Panther has the code to the Nation Destroying gun stolen together by him and his brother. However, before they could use the gun, Panther was arrested by Maj. Ram Singh (Jackie Shroff) (BSF Officer). Cobra now wants to influence Ram Singh to get his brother out.

On the other hand, Tara and Sitara also feel that Ram Singh is the only person who can help them cross the border. They win his family’s sympathy and find their way into Ram Singh's house. Moreover, they fall in love with Ram Singh's daughter (Amrita Arora) and her friend (Nandini Singh).

In the meantime, Cobra comes to know about Tara and Sitara's whereabouts and plans to use them to get his brother out. To hold the two at ransom he kidnaps their mother and blackmails them into getting Panther out.

Caught in a catch 22 situation, the two set about to find some way of saving their mother. At the same time they are at the risk of losing the love and trust of their girlfriends by revealing their true identities.
Review

David Dhawan sticks to his oft-repeated formula of slapstick comedy in Ek Aur Ek Gyarah. The movie is riddled with crass gags and non-sensical humor that has been the backbone of all of Dhawan’s films.

The narrative keeps shifting from one character to another without any common thread.

The romantic angle between Govinda, Sanjay and their ladyloves is shoddily penned. The two protagonists often act like bumpkins and end up having their own foot in their mouth. Even the romantic songs are forcibly put in the narrative and that crop up at the most invalid situations.

The first half of the film is appealing and occupies a viewer thanks to a few spine tickling puns and pranks. However, the story begins to lose pace in the second half and by the end a viewer is tired of the kitschy situations and puerile jokes.

Both Govinda and Sanjay Dutt deliver commendable performances but fail to make much mark because of the lack of good script.

The film is good for just one-time viewing.
