Tanuja Chandra's Film Star is one such story set against the backdrop
of the film industry.
Hira Pandit (Mahima Chaudhury) is an actress who is nothing if not
full of herself. Arrogant and thriving on only one thing - people
adoring her unabashedly, and without stopping, just loving her! So
naturally when this adoration stars to wane, she can't take it. Her
vanity can't bear the fact that her popularity is slipping, that she's
not getting nominated for awards, that her films simply aren't working
like they used to.
Just at that moment in life, she bumps into Digambar (Priyanshu), an
old friend of hers who lost contact since they left college.
Digambar is now an unemployed lawyer who makes a living as a small
time singer. But he has a problem - he is a fully fledged alcoholic.
So on the night of their accidental reunion, Digambar criticises Hira.
He tells her that she needs to change her character on screen as she
has become predictable in all her performances.
Heera starts meeting Leela in jail who is convicted for murdering her
own husband a rich man (Aryan Vaid). Her interaction with Leela makes
her sympathize with her and she regrets wanting to exploit Leela for
her ulterior motive. Heera resolves to fight Leela's case through the
help of her lawyer friend Digambar (Priyansu Chatterjee) - an
ex-lawyer who has taken up to crooning.
The supporting cast comprises of Pratima Kazmi, Sandeep Mehta, Ravi
Jhankal and Manoj Sharma. The film has been produced by Vishesh
Entertainment, and presented by Sahara and Mahesh Bhatt. Jatin-Lalit
have composed the music on lyrics penned by Neelesh Misra, Vibha Singh
and Israr Ansari.
Filmstar is a movie worth waiting for when it releases.
