Synopsis
Khel is the story of two close buddies Dev Mallya [Suniel Shetty] and Rohan Poddar [Ajay Jadeja].
Dev is a suave business tycoon who moves around in higher circles and rub shoulders with the crème de la crème of the society. A man
with sharp business acumen, Dev has an ambition to be labeled among the topmost businessmen in the world. And he has an unrelenting
passion to possess anything that he desires, come what may.
On the other hand, his friend Rohan is a simple guy who is happily living with whatever comes his way.
And along comes Rohan’s way a beautiful belle Saanjh Batra [Celina Jaitley], an interior designer. Saanjh and Rohan are attracted to
each other and eventually fall in love.
Things take a turn for worse for Rohan when he is accused of a murder he did not commit and sentenced to life imprisonment. While
Saanjh is shattered at Rohan’s imprisonment, Dev steps forward to share her grief and lend her moral support in the time of crisis.
Slowly as time passes, Dev and Saanjh become good friends.
Enter into the picture A.C.P. Rajveer Scindia [Sunny Deol], who is newly commissioned to the city. Rajveer comes across Rohan's case
and immediately senses something fishy. A righteous man at core, Rajveer holds the belief that an innocent victim of circumstances
should never be punished.
Rajveer begins investigating into Rohan’s case and is startled to find some important fact that point that the plot to trap Rohan was
carefully etched out by someone who is close to him. Who could it be?
Review
Editor-turned-director Yusuf Khan’s Khel is an average entertainer with necessary emotional ingredients like friendship, love,
jealously, betrayal and deception all packed into a thrilling drama.
The movie tells the story of two friends – one poor, one rich. While the poor guy is humble and takes the life as it comes, the rich
one walks with swagger, talks with pride and is possessive about anything that touches his heart. And along comes a girl who likes the
poor guy. But her charm touches the rich guy who must now have her at any cost. What next? Predictable as the tongue of politicians.
The rich guy hatches a conspiracy and gets the poor one behind bars so that he can ‘have the pudding’ all by himself.
But wait! There is a Good Samaritan cop who would foil his plans.
There are no two opinions that the movie is based on a stale story and a predictable plot, but what holds a viewer’s attention is
Yusuf Khan’s cinematic presentation and the continuously changing graph of the movie.
Sunny Deol’s punch-packed entry in the second half may give goose bumps to some frontbenchers, but it is certainly kitschy for a
serious viewer. Apart from this, Sunny delivers a good performance and thankfully cuts down on his hollering act.
Sunil Shetty looks classy and suave but he still puts on a bland expression before the camera. All these years of experience before
the camera seems to have done him little good.
Celina looks gorgeous, but that is all to her. She needs to work on her dialogue delivery, voice intonation and facial expressions.
Ajay Jadeja is forgettable.
On the whole, Khel holds your attention because of the clash between Sunny and Sunil in the second half and a nicely
implemented climax. |
