Synopsis
Handsome hunk Fardeen Khan and lesser-known Richa Pallod pair together in South Indian director K. Ravi Shankar’s touching family drama Kuch Tum Handsome hunk Fardeen Khan and lesser-known Richa Pallod pair together in South Indian director K. Ravi Shankar’s touching family drama Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahe.

The film has Fardeen Khan playing Abhay, a happy lad with an easy-going attitude. He is a typical MTV-bred yuppie who is totally alien to his native culture. And when his grandfather (Vikram Gokhale) invites him to his native village, he is delighted.

But once he gets to his village an oversized joint family greets him. At first he is confounded and feels like a misfit, but soon he wins over their hearts. He further surprises everyone by adapting well to the village’s humdrum life. He also comes across gorgeous Mangla (Richa Pallod) who is a family friend. Soon the two fall in love.

That’s when an ugly secret unveils itself before the family. Haunted by the demons of the past, the family is close to falling apart. How Abhay helps his family to overcome the crisis is what the rest of the film is all about.

Review

The film, a remake of the National Award winning Telugu movie “Kalisundam Raa”, is based on a cliched storyline. At the center of the story are two feuding families. Fardeen Khan plays the grandson who tries to end the feud.

He tries his best to win over the elders to make the families forget their differences and effect reconciliation. But there comes a situation when he is forced to sacrifice his love (Richa Pallod) to bring together the two fighting families. What happens next is, of course, foreseen!

Ravi Shankar, the director of the film has convincingly created a joint-family ambience in the plot by focussing on hordes of uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. But he keeps these characters in the story merely for entertainment value.

Fardeen Khan shows a broader emotive range in the role of a callow grandson who is troubled by the fact that his late father was responsible for the feud between the two families. Despite his urban looks he plays a simple guy who respects the values of a joint family.

Opposite him newcomer Richa Pallod seems to ham. Her expressions are bland and her dialogue delivery needs much sprucing.

Anu Malik’s music is just about average.
