Review
It’s a cops-and-robbers story “with a difference”, director Shashilal Nair asserts. Clad in designer suits this cop pulverizes the bad
guys with swaggering comfort and style. He is cold-blooded and unperturbed by sentiments, until circumstances force him to play foster
father to four kids.
The film is an action thriller at the core with moments of light-hearted romance and comedy fit in here and there. The first half
bears a bleak resemblance to the Hollywood potboiler Lethal Weaponand the second half looks like a rough rehash of Hum Hain
Rahi Pyar Ke.
Buddies Ajay (SRK) and Javed (Jackie) are members of the special task force. They crack down on the drug baron KKV (Nirmal Pandey).
After a fierce encounter in which they lay their lives on line, the duo nab the evil.
KKV is connected to high places. He pulls strings and is acquitted by the court. Wounded KKV would not rest until he has avenged both
Ajay and Javed. He lays down a trap, a dastardly ambush, in which Javed is killed.
Javed’s death devastates Ajay. As a token of love he takes the responsibility of Javed’s four orphaned kids in loco parentis.
The focus is now shifted from the spine-chilling action to the bedlam created by the naughty kids in Ajay’s house. The hardboiled cop
doesn’t make a loving father and the kids do not like him. Ajay is always at the receiving end of the kids’ pranks. Distraught and
confused he looks for some help from his old pal Champak (Dilip Joshi), but to no use. Finally he turns to Geetha (Juhi), a bubbly
chatterbox. Together they rein in the mischievous kids.
In the process love sprouts between them, love comes to full bloom and together all of them make for a happy living family.
All this while feelings of revenge keeps simmering inside Ajay and he goes about prowling KKV to avenge Javed’s death. One day he
follows him into a nightclub where he is thrown out of wits seeing Geetha dancing there. Confused and enraged he heads for home only
to find Geetha there. He knows something is fishy and he won’t rest until he unravels the mystery.
Who is Geetha? Is she bluffing Ajay to fulfill her wily motives? Will Ajay emerge victorious in his duel with the drug lord?
K Shashilal Nair deftly carries the film on two tracks simultaneously: spine chilling action sequences on one hand and comedy and
romance on the other.
SRK surely steals the show. Jackie and Nirmal maintain their usual ease before the camera. Juhi carries her role convincingly with her
tomboyish style of acting.
AR Rahman’s music is a highpoint of the film. Song Khamoshiyan Gungunane Lagi is catchy.
