Synopsis
Three men vying for the love of one girl – not a love triangle, but rather a love ‘square’ so-to-speak. Rajiv Rai directed “Pyar, Ishq
aur Mohabbat” is a touching story that will warm the cockles of your heart.
The film is a star-studded affair with leading Bollywood stars and the debutant model-turned-actor Arjun Rampal. Also in the marginal
roles are Isha Koppikar and Monica Bedi.
Isha Nair (Keerty Reddy) is a girl blessed with ethereal beauty. She is studying medicine to be a successful cardiologist as she wants
to cure the poor (who cant afford expensive treatments) of their heart disease. But she is the one who keeps making men lovesick.
The first one to be smitten by her beauty is Yash Sabbarwal (Sunil Shetty), a rich business tycoon with a bounty of millions to his
name. Knowing Isha’s ambitions Yash hides his feelings, gives her scholarship and sends her to Scotland for higher studies in
medicine.
Then enters second man in Isha’s life – Taj Bhardwaj (Aftab Shivdasani) an NRI in whose swanky palace-like home Isha stays as a guest.
At the first sight Taj, who is a through gentleman, falls head over heels in love with Isha but is not able to express his love to
her. Sadly, Isha sees him as a very good friend and nothing more.
And the third man to be enamored by Isha is the handsome model Gaurav (Arjun Rampal) who enjoys the reputation of a philanderer. He
plays the game of love with Isha while she deems love as the highest virtue.
Parallel to these characters are two damsels in distress Rubeina (Isha Koppikar) and Maya (Monica Bedi). Rubeina, who spearheads a
group of NRIs called Mini India Group, finds her ideal man in Taj. And Maya, a talented director of ad films, is smitten by Gaurav.
Who will finally get Isha? What is the way out of this complicated cobweb of relationships? To find the answers see Gulshan Rai-produced
“Pyar Ishq aur Mohabbat” which is scheduled to hit the turnstiles soon. The film explores human relationships and will make you laugh
and cry at the same time.
Review
Rajiv Rai, the man who, in the days of yore, gave some gripping thrillers like “Tridev”, “100 Days” and “Gupt” has fallen short of
living upto his own reputation in “Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat”.
Although his idea of spinning a love story among a chosen ensemble of characters was a novel one, what was actually lacking was a
gripping script. The tepid script that he has come up with makes his characters look and sound stereotypical and with no freshness.
For instance, once again Sunil Shetty does the role of an over-possessive lover (a la “Dhadkan”) who thinks everything can be bought
with money. He even hires services of Gaurav (Arjun Rampal) to win and then break Isha’s heart so that she would come running into his
arms. How presumptuous!
Anyway, Sunil plays a brooding lover to the hilt and authentically maintains the mien of a high-headed millionaire. But his role is
miniscule, poorly etched, and doesn’t call for much histrionics.
And as for Aftab Shivdasani, the guy is new, promising and needs better roles to proves his credentials. However, he maintains his
customary ease before the camera and chips in for some funny moments, although nothing impressive.
Only Arjun Rampal cuts a dash with his warming presence and belies the saying that “Models have a wooden face”. His histrionics are
pretty polished (thanks to the diction classes he took while acting for Ashok Mehta’s “Moksha) and his acting skills average. Only he
needs to shun off his self-consciousness of being before a camera.
Coming to film’s centrifugal force, Kirti Reddy, well she should have better stayed in south and tried her luck in films there.
Moreover, her character is not void of lose ends.
For instance, she is supposed to be attending her angioplasty classes, not dancing away to glory and painting Scotland red with Gaurav.
One point where the film scores is its music by Rai’s old faithful Viju Shah. Another highlight is brilliant cinematography by P.S.
Vinod who seems to have dexterously captures the shimmering glory of Alps. |
