Tusshar Kapoor as Karan
Kapoor, is an ad film artiste, producer and director. Gracy Singh as
Sonam, is a lovely girl and moves about very closely with Karan Kapoor.
She lives with her mother. Amrita Arora as Sarayu, is the dearest and
only sister of a big industrialist of the city, Nanda Prakashraj).
Anupam Kher as Dr Mathur, is Karan's father. He brought up Sonam as a
member of his own family after the death of her father, who was his
bosom friend. He wants to get Karan married to Sonam.
Karan (Tusshar Kapoor) and Sonam (Gracy Singh) are close friends who
hang out together. But one day, an argument arises between the two on
the subject of love. Sonam believes in love at first sight while Karan
thinks that such a belief is nothing but infatuation. He has always
said that true love comes gradually with time. But she disagrees with
him. Fed up of arguing, Sonam challenges Karan to propose to a girl
which she will choose. If he succeeds in doing so, she will accept
defeat and present Karan with a gift. Karan accepts the shart (meaning
challenge). Just at that moment a girl crosses their paths. Sonam
points at her as the target for their challenge. As predicted, Karan
uses his charms to draw the girl towards him. She is none other than
Sarayu (Amrita Arora), the sister of a gang leader. The twist comes
when Sarayu's brother, Nanda sees them together. He goes to Karan's
office along with his gang.
Finally she challenges Karan to befriend and propose a girl of her
choice. If he succeeds in doing so, she will accept defeat and present
Karan with a gift, which he has to accept. Karan accepts the
challenge. Just then one beautiful girl steps down the temple stairs
towards her car. Sonam points at her as the target for their
challenge. The girl is none other than Sarayu. Adopting different
methods, Karan ultimately strikes a chord of friendship with Sarayu.
One day, Sarayu's brother Nanda sees them together. Nanda and his
goons simply thrash people black and blue if they dare to cast an evil
eye on Sarayu. He goes to Karan's office along with his henchmen.
After heavy scuffle Nanda gives Karan strict warning to keep aloof
from his sister Sarayu. Seeing the rough behavior of Nanda and his
gang, Sonam expresses her wish to withdraw her challenge. But Karan is
now more determined to face Nanda at any cost. Finally Karan's
marriage is celebrated with one of these girls. Who is that girl and
how it happens forms the climax part of the story.
Shart is produced by T. Trivikrama Rao and written-directed by Poori
Jagannath. Others in the starcast include Shakti Kapoor, Vrajesh
Hirjee, Rajpal Yadav, Snehal Dhabi, Himani Shivpuri and National Award
Winner Prakashraj. Anu Malik composes the music while Sameer has
written the lyrics.
