Review
Shool is co-scripted by Ram Gopal Varma and set in heartland Bihar. It exposes the blatant lawlessness that envelops the
grassroots milieu.
It is the story of an honest Inspector, Samar Pratap Singh, (Manoj Bajpai), who lives by the book at office and thus finds the going
tough among denizens of small town Motihari.
The local MLA, Bachchu Yadav’s (Shayaji Shinde) terror haunts everybody. From Samar’s own uniformed colleagues to hardened goons to
the common people, all are at Yadav’s mercy.
In his endeavor to perform his duty, Samar finds himself waging a one-man war against a rotten system, corrupt to the core.
Samar’s battle is not for personal vendetta against Bachchu Yadav. Manoj has played the character superbly.
Shayaji Shinde has shown quite some talent. Raveena Tandon as Samar’s wife, Manjari, gives a fine, controlled performance.
The highpoint of Shool is the straightforward approach of its director. He never wavers from his one-point agenda of revealing
the politician-police-criminal nexus.
It is a good movie, which never gets boring
