Review

Bollywood director, Mahesh Manjrekar, once again cuts a dash with his latest flick “Tera Mera Saath Rahe”. The film, starring the erstwhile action hero Ajay Devgan, lissome Sonali Bendre and Namrata Shirodkar, deals with tangled human relationships.

It is the story of a young and good-hearted lad Raj Dixit (Ajay Devgan) who lives in middle-class downtown Mumbai along with his demented brother Rahul (Dushyant Wagh).

Raj has a special bond with Rahul. He takes care of him like a mother – helping him to eat and attending to his other needs.

Suman (Namrata Shirodkar) Raj’s beautiful neighbor empathizes with his struggle to fend for his mentally challenged brother. She also has a soft corner for Raj.

The other woman in Raj’s life is Madhuri (Sonali Bendre), who hails from a respectable family. Raj loves Madhuri but cannot make a full-fledged commitment to starting a new life with her because of Rahul. Nor does he wish to send Rahul to a mental asylum in spite of Madhuri’s insistence.

Torn between his brother Rahul on one hand and the world on the other, which way will Raj choose?

After doing a series of cliched roles of late, Ajay Devgan has given a polished performance in “Tera Mera Saath Rahe”. With remarkable alacrity he switches from one emotion to another and displays his histrionic range to the hilt.

Another commendable performance in the film comes from Dushyant Wagh, the promising child actor whose subtle and restricted performance makes you readily sympathize with the character he portrays.

Sonali Bendre looks gorgeous (and so does Namrata) throughout the film and maintains her ease before the camera. Namrata alongwith Shivaji Satam and Reema Lago (in marginal roles) chip in for some light-hearted moments in an otherwise serious story.

“Tera Mera Saath Rahe” is a sensitive film that is rich in cinematic sensibilities. Mahesh Manjrekar lends a realistic look to the film and infuses it with certain subtleties that grip the viewer through and through.

At the same time he gives a glossy touch to the plot and embellishes the story with commercial ingredients (although he could have done away with those glitzy songs).
