Review
Made under the banner of Cinevista Eagles Plus, “Yeh Mohabbat Hai” is a teenybopper love saga featuring debutante Akansha Malhotra,
the beautiful grand-daughter of Prem Nath, opposite another newcomer, Rahul Bhatt. The film has been directed by Umesh Mehra and has
music by Anand Raj Anand.
The story is set in the beautiful small town Gulnagar, located somewhere in the deep ravines of Kashmir.
Aman Khan (Danny Denzongpa) is a rich businessman and an influential man in Gulnagar. His gorgeous daughter Shaheen (Akansha Malhotra)
is madly in love with her childhood friend Chaand (Rahul Bhatt) who is the only son of Bashir Khan (Parikshit Sahni). Bashir works as
a manager in Aman Khan’s company.
Chaand is a talented cricketer and he feels elated when his team is invited to play an important tournament in Mumbai. Little does he
know what the future has in store for him!
Shaheen’s cousin Shaukat (Mohnish Behl) dislikes Chaand. He, along with his terrorist friend Abdul Jameel (Arbaaz Khan), hatches an
evil plan to trap Chaand and separate him from Shaheen forever. He hides RDX in Chaand’s sporting gear.
Once in Mumbai, Chaand makes friends with Roshni (Mohini Sharma) who is an actress. He also makes acquaintance with Baggad Singh (Shakti
Kapoor), a special effects expert and Gullu (Gulshan Grover), an eccentric film director. All this while he is unaware of the RDX in
his gear.
Inspector Sawant (Sadashiv Amarapurkar) gets a tip off from his special agent about this RDX, and makes a raid in which Chaand’s
friends are killed and he arrested for possession of objectionable material. He is labeled as a terrorist and thrown behind the prison
bars.
Aman Khan who had pinned all his hopes on Chaand is deeply affected by the charge. But Shaheen is not willing to believe that Chaand
could ever do this. And when her dad begins to look for her prospective groom in his friends’ circle, Shaheen decides to take the
matter in her own hands. Helped by Roshni, Gullu and Baggad Singh, she outfoxes the evil plans of Shaukat and manages to rescue him
from the prison.
Both Akansha and Rahul score good marks as far as looks go, but have a long way to go in the realm of acting. Apart from frequent
hamming, they fail to get under the skin of their characters. Rahul looks a complete misfit playing the beefcake cricketer. Even the
other characters in the film are poorly etched and hardly look credible.
